if it’s not one thing…

August 17, 2006

it’s another.

• work was especially crazy last week. crazy to the tune of 47 rather stress-filled hours. and this week’s not spectactularly easy either…. but not to the point of OT.

• 5-6 weeks ago, my dad was diagnosed as diabetic (type 2). my parents had to go to some classes for it (she had to go as the “family support person” or whatever they call it), and essentially found out that when i worked at ON and would get my lunch breaks late (as in, 2:30 or something), the shaking i could sometimes see my hands doing is most likely hypoglycemia. and of course, now my dad has declared that next time i get that bad, he wants to use his blood sugar monitor on me to see what my numbers look like… like i voluntarily did it! lol

• jen, my coworker that i’ve been doing freelance stuff with, has a few more jobs she’s working on this weekend… so i should get a few hours of work from that at a decent hourly rate. and she may land a partially database-driven site with an admin section (she’s got a meeting scheduled next week that i’m going to go with her to) which would probably mean 10-15 hours + for me, equaling a nice chunk of change.

• my leg has “healed” - meaning that going overboard at the first potential sign of the cyst’s reemergence seemed to work. it still hasn’t healed shut, but considering it hasn’t since march, i’m not worked up about it. i can go to the gym again. which is a good thing. i’m starting to notice glimpses of arm muscle from the weights i lift there… which is a miracle. i’m an upper body WIMP!

• ragweed has decided to hit 2 weeks earlier than usual, which means i’m nothing short of a walking mess if i’m outside or exposed to outside air for more than about 3 minutes w/o allergy meds - which i try not to take whenever possible. that means i’m banished to keeping the windows shut everywhere i go… by monday at 8:30 though, i’ll be a little happier - because i have a doc appt for an allergy shot that should last the rest of ragweed season. until then… well, i can barely put my contacts in. *groan* at least my glasses work.

• i’ve decided i need multiple vacations. lol. we’re supposed to go to milwaukee in a few weeks (somewhere between aug 26-sept 4, no one in this family’s organized besides me and i’m way too exhausted/feeling crappy to care right now) - which hopefully will help a little. oh, and to update the previous post, i DID get wings training camp tickets. between going to that (traverse city) and maybe watching a day of griffins camp (which is just here in GR probably at the end of sept?), that should be a nice little break as well. i hope.

  1. One Response to “if it’s not one thing…”

  2. I came in to see if I could pick up some NASCAR pics. I read about your dad. I really hate to hear that and about your shaking as well. Been there, did that. Seven years ago Pam talked me into going in for just a checkup. Not the complete physical. That’s when I got a call on my cell phone to get to the doctors office. I walked up to the nurse and told her who I was. She grabbed me and took me right in and that scared me some. After all there were probably 30 people there ahead of me. She grabbed a syringe and shot me up with insulin. My blood sugar had come back 427. I went through the classes solo. The doc put me on some kind of prescrition and the first two days it almost killed me. Hot flashes, cold flashes, cold sweats, weak knees, constant shaking and a whole lot more. I told Pam I’d rather die than live like that the rest of my life. I got off the stuff and just kept watching my diet. I have tested my sugar since then and it has always stayed pretty normal. In fact when I was tested a few months back the diabeties test came back negative. I don’t know if the body can heal that but if it can, “It did” I hope the same holds true for your dad. I’m going to close this. I just remembered others can read this and I’d really rather not share this with a bunch of other people.

God Bless and I’ll pray for your dad to be cured of that junk.
    Dave
