comment spam…
November 16, 2004anyone else who uses wordpress get hit yet? (if you haven’t, be glad… lol)
anyway, since i’ve done a batch of deleting this morning already, this is strictly a FYI:
* comments for all posts more than about a month old are closed. it’s not that i would mind comments on those posts, but since i don’t really get any for older posts (and that’s what appears to be getting hit), i just ran one big SQL query and locked them all.
* a form of comment moderation has been added. by this, i don’t mean i’m going to approve EVERY comment before it shows up - instead, comments with more than 3 links or one of the common spam words need to be approved first. (don’t worry, if it’s not spam, it’s going to be approved)
that is all.

I got hit hard with spam the other day.. I wasn’t really sure what to do, so I blocked the IPs and it’s stopped for now.
