arghhhh…

January 12, 2004

i love my computer. i really do. well, most of the time.

but lately it’s been giving me more probs than before. like i’ll get these random downloader.trojan virus alerts saying the file’s in my temp internet files, after i’ve dumped my temp internet files and run a full virus scan and gotten a “clean” result. my system 32 folder also likes to open automatically when i start the stupid thing up (going through msconfig and disabling it hasn’t helped). rumor has it that one’s a spyware issue, but i run adaware and spybot search and destroy (most recent versions and updated) pretty much daily to see if i can fix it. no luck.

i think i’ll be reformatting soon. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. i really don’t feel like wasting time doing it, and then reinstalling everything, but it’s going to be a necessary evil.

anyway….

on a happier note, my (sc)am. cup ticket came through (thank you drew!!!) so nyc for a few days at the end of february is on. anyone familiar with hotels near MSG? i’ve got a pretty good idea about the flight side of it already… as long as northwest pilots don’t strike!

edit: now i think i have somewhere to stay pretty well decided, too. thanks a million for the links/suggestions lloyd, two of them would have been good choices for sure! :)

  2. my computer’s been gay lately too. every 2 seconds it trys to connect to the internet, and when i leave it for about 10 minutes, a virus alert comes up saying it’s found a virus, but i’ve done several scans, and it says there’s no files infected. grr.

  5. Hey Kelley its julie from clip clop. I just wanted to ask you about that System 32 problem you’ve been having. I have the same problem and so does a friend of Henry’s. So if you figure it out without having to reformat please pass the info along. Thanks.

  6. julie, i’ve pretty much talked myself into reformatting because of the virus weirdness too. however, i did discover one potential “fix” for the system 32 folder on a computer-related message board which involves a registry edit, and i will make sure to try it out before my hard drive is erased. i’ll let you know, definitely. what operating system is your computer running - xp?
